I'm a graduate student at the University of Utah
studying atmospheric science. Yep, I'm a real
weatherman. It's my nerdy passion. Most people
enjoy watching storms, but when I watch a storm
I've got my computer with me watching the radar
and surface observations.
I defending my master thesis this summer and then
start my PhD work in the fall. Currently waiting
to hear back from NASA on a fellowship I applied
for (keeping my fingers crossed!) Many people,
when they find out I'm a meteorologist, ask if
I'll be on TV soon. I'm not on that career track.
Instead, I'm mostly interested in testing and
developing the next generation weather prediction
systems so that the forecasts you get on your
handy smart phones are more accurate. It turns out
that weather forecasting is a multi-billion dollar
business in the U.S.A. Cool, huh!
I've been living down in Provo for some time (yes,
it's a long commute to the U everyday. Any other
FrontRunner riders out there!?) but I'm looking to
move closer to Salt Lake this fall. I'm just not
into the big-city lifestyle, more of an open space
and large yard kind of guy.
Some of my interests include golf, bowling,
hiking, Sunday drives, a good book (recently read
Larry H. Miller's autobiography), skiing, boating,
softball, afternoon naps (especially on Sunday in
a hammock), computer programming, hanging out in
the backyard, and mowing the lawn.
Is it fair to say that I'm really interested in
finding someone to marry who wants to be a mom?,
because I think being a dad would be my favorite
job in the world.
