Not sure about things lightening up -- my mom has
been in the hospital for about a week! At least
I'm never bored .... Any ideas for making time to
get a thesis prospectus on my professor's desk?
******************************
Guys, I'm going to apologize -- my father died a
couple of months ago, and although I'm okay with
that, I have more family responsibilities this
summer than I anticipated. I will keep updating
my profile and pictures as I can, but I can't
promise much else. I'm also finding that a couple
of severe disappointments has left me with a very
low interest in online activities -- but I don't
have a lot of other choices if I want to meet
single members of the church! Maybe things will
lighten up in July .... ;-)
******************************
I’m going to deal with the obvious first: no
sane person will mistake me for Paris Hilton,
Jennifer Anniston, or even Demi Moore. (And
I’ve had enough online experience to confirm
this!) However, I am here because I believe that
somewhere there is a righteous priesthood holder
who will be attracted to the twinkle in my eye,
the smile that is generally a fixture on my face,
and the character that I have been blessed to
build through my experiences. (He might even love
that I dress from thrift stores, garage sales, and
hand-me-downs!)
I probably make a better wife than girlfriend.
Life and the gospel have convinced me that
devotion to family is a great refining influence
as well as my highest calling, and I have received
great blessings for the dedication I have shown to
mine. I have been blessed with a big heart, and
often have many members of an “adopted family”
that I do my best to be “there for.” To me,
adding a few more members to my family just
multiplies the joy.
I work as a music teacher in the Memphis City
Schools. The work is stressful and tiring, but it
can also be very rewarding. I have been working
in “gang territory,” and it has expanded my
understanding of why people make poor choices and
how poor thinking processes are more binding than
physical circumstances. Every year, I grow to
love nearly 600 students, and if I ever the
transfer to another school, I will have a tough
time leaving “my kids.” Somehow, all of the
stress, the rudeness from the students, the
fighting and the violence are washed away by
knowing that I’ve made a difference.
If all goes according to plan, I will receive my
Master’s degree this Christmas. It has taken
about five years to fit the classes in with
everything else in my life, but it has been worth
it! I’ve learned more than I imagined I would,
I’ve solidified my future, and I’ve grown in
confidence from conquering something so difficult
against some pretty tremendous odds!
On top of all of my secular demands, I have done
my best to become a scriptorian, and enjoy
immersing myself in the scriptures. Regrettably,
I can’t always set aside the time I would love
to have for study! Over the years, I have served
in many church callings. On of the most trying
and most rewarding was serving as a primary
teacher to a crack baby that was adopted by a
family in our ward. Currently, I am serving as
the Relief Society chorister and ward single adult
representative. I’m looking forward to taking
some time this summer to magnify my callings more
fully. I also attend church every Sunday (barring
illness), and worship in the temple once a
month.
I’m sure I’ve left some things out, so you can
email me if you have any questions. I’m looking
forward to making new friends!
In all honesty, my lifestyle doesn’t leave loads
of time for friends, but I do catch up with
neighbors and ward members on the weekends, and
email several friends regularly. I’m excited
about my future, and I trust that Heavenly Father
has a plan for me that serves His kingdom and my
best interests – whether or not I remain
single.
If I sound like someone you’d like to get to
know and share some time and conversation with,
drop me an email!
