After living in midtown manhattan for 20 years I had to leave. I had come to a fork in the road of my life and I knew I had to take the path less traveled. So I decided to move to Los Angeles. As my mother was living alone in NC I wanted to stop by and visit her while I was still on the east coast. I discovered she had developed dementia and I ended up staying with her for the next 3 years. Til she started breaking her hips and the doctors said she should be in a nursing home. While I was in NC, I would often go back to NYC to visit a girlfriend and one new years eve he gave a little dinner party at her apt and I met a great guy who told me about the book of Mormon and he asked me to check out the church. I said I would if there was a Mormon church within 30 miles of where I lived in NC. There were loads of Baptist Churches, a few Methodist, Episcopalian and Moravian, even Agape...I knew there would be no Mormon churches within 100 miles. But I had promised so i looked - and when I located one within 10 miles of my house, I made a point to attend a service. Which wasnt too easy, I kept showing up at 11am...Finally a lovely woman told me service starts at 9am, then Sunday School then Relief Society. I was so taken with the warmth and sincerity of all the people I met, the way they lived thier faith. Read the book of Mormon, had many visits from missionaries, lunches with the ladies, watched satellite movies of the elders and the prophet - really enjoyed the time I spent. Havent spoken to the man who first introduced me to the Mormon faith, but i will always remember him in my prayers for opening my mind and giving me the book of Mormon
